When Disney bought Star Wars from George Lucas in 2012 i was happy. I didn’t believe George Lucas did a great job with the prequels, so this acquirement by Disney brought a bit of hope for any Star Wars fan out there. Oh boy, we were so wrong. Don’t know how you can do much worse than the prequels, but they did it. As of today, i still don’t understand how is it possible to destroy a great franchise like Star Wars. I have the impression that nobody in Disney is a Star Wars fanatic. I know, it’s all about the money but still you have to hire the right people to have success with your product. I liked The Force Awakens, i thought it was a good beginning. Some people think it’s a redo of Episode 4 and yes there are similarities but overall it was a good and safe start of the franchise. I was ok with it.
So then The Last Jedi came out. This is by far the worst Star Wars ever done. Don’t get me wrong, the movie has great special effects and action but it didn’t feel like a Star Wars movie. It felt like if someone never watched a SW movie but tried to make one anyway. All the rules that were established in previous movie went out the window. I like Rian Johnson as a filmmaker, but he missed the boat on this.
The Rise of Skywalker was a farce. This one made absolutely no sense. You could feel that J.J Abrams was tired of it. We can clearly see that the story was botched, and they just lost any interest in the new trilogy. So many things didn’t add up and was such a waste.
For the Future, i would pick a director who can make great sci-fi stories. Star Wars needs someone who will take his time understanding George Lucas’s vision. Hope Jon Favreau or Kevin Feige takes the reign. Star Wars needs to be great again.
