Wonder Woman comes into conflict with the Soviet Union during the Cold War in the 1980s and finds a formidable foe by the name of the Cheetah.
Wonder Woman is back and this time it’s in 1984. Gal Gadot is back as the titular character and still brings charm and fierceness to the Amazon warrior. This sequel has a much lighter tone than the first movie. The story has Wonder Woman face two opponents this time. The actions scenes are decent and has Wonder Woman use her lasso quite often. Pedro Pascal is good as Maxwell Lord and his performance is believable. The production is on point so are the special effects. Wonder Woman 1984 is a very different adventure from the first movie and has some entertaining aspect to it.
Let’s just say that the writing in this movie is a mess. The story makes no sense. Let’s start by the opening sequence. This scene doesn’t impact the movie at all and should’ve been removed. Also, the movie has no reason to take place in 1984. They did a poor job implementing the 1980′ vibes. You barely hear any hit 80s songs or throwbacks. Plus, there is a tremendous lack of action. Only one scene was memorable, and it involves military trucks in the desert. The introduction of Cheetah takes too much time and by the time she shows up you just don’t care. Still, Kristen Wiig did her best with what she got. All the characters motivations needs more explanations because some reaction doesn’t seem clear by the end of the movie. The addition of Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) is understandable but not well executed. This version of Wonder Woman is way softer than the version we saw in the first movie, Batman vs Superman or even Justice League. Patty Jenkins missed the boat on this one. I hope she brings more Amazonian action in the third movie.
