Following a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble: venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
Army of the dead is the latest movie from director Zack Snyder. He became famous with his remake of Dawn of the dead in the early 2000s, which was great. We can say that he is familiar with zombie movies. The story is very much straight forward. Getting money from a casino in Vegas with zombies blocking the way. The movie is very entertaining and sometimes funny. Great action scenes and the VFX are excellent. There is also some originality on how the zombies behave. Army of the dead is a good watch. Zack Snyder may not be the best filmmaker out there, but none of his movies are boring.
First, there is an annoying blurry effect during the whole movie. Almost every shot on characters are zoomed in with this blurry focus on them. You get use to it after a while, but it would’ve been better without it. Also, there is practically no character development. We know some stuff on Dave Bautista’s character and that’s it. The movie doesn’t manage to create any emotional attachment. So when characters are killed off, you just don’t care. And finally, as usual in zombie movies, characters keep making stupid decisions.
