Synopsis

A family on a tropical holiday discovers that the secluded beach where they are staying is somehow causing them to age rapidly, reducing their entire lives into a single day.

The Good

After the movie GLASS in 2019, famous director M. Night Shyamalan comes back with his new  movie OLD. This movie is set on a beach where time goes by at a tremendous rate. First, we all know that every Shyamalan movie has a big reveal at the end, and this one doesn’t do exception. The setup before the reveal is what matters. One of the strongest point of this movie is the tension. Shyamalan manage to create good tension throughout the movie and also, irritating the audience with the characters. Time is a big factor in the story, and characters decisions makes you notice it even more. You will be intrigued until the very end. The big reveal is satisfying also. OLD will not go in Shyamalan’s greatest achievements, but is worth seeing on a discount night.

  • Good tension.
  • Good reveal.
  • Good pacing.

The Bad

The production feels a little cheap because the majority of the film happens on the beach. You can tell that it was made really quickly during the pandemic. The acting is so underwhelming. Only Alex Wolff manage to have a decent performance. The story is intriguing, but makes no sense. I feel that Shyamalan create stories around his big reveal, but doesn’t provide any logical explanations. It’s a big shocker when the reveal happens but soon after, when you think about it, you’re like “humm, wait a minute…”. OLD is not a great film, but it’s better than GLASS.

  • Feels cheap.
  • Story makes no sense.
  • Acting could’ve been better.
