As the world falls, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers into the hands of a great biker horde led by the warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the wasteland, they encounter the citadel presided over by Immortan Joe. The two tyrants wage war for dominance, and Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
Furiosa is the prequel of the huge blockbuster hit Mad Max Fury Road. It follows the tumultuous life of Furiosa, the character played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. This time, it’s Anya Taylor Joy who has the honour to play the protagonist in the prequel. George Miller is back directing this epic Mad Max journey once again. His directing skills are still sharp and doesn’t seem to slow down. Let’s start analyzing with the performances. Chris Hemsworth is by far the most impressive in this movie. He is unrecognizable playing this insanely sadistic character named Dr. Dementus. You can feel that he truly enjoys playing this character. This is for sure Hemsworth’s best performance ever. As for Anya Taylor Joy, she nails it also. She brings so much determination in her eyes. She managed to make us believe the fierce nature of this character. I truly believe she will be one of the top Hollywood stars someday. The action is just epic. George Miller as mastered the way to portray effective action sequences. This movie is very long, but not a single moment boring. It’s a thrill ride from start to finish. The story is basically just Furiosa trying to find a way back home. Not much story development but still very effective in the context of a Mad Max prequel. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a very entertaining movie to watch. The action, characters, locations and pacing are all there to make a joyful experience at the movies. Watch it.
On the bad side, the VFX are a letdown. Mad Max Fury Road was made 90% of practical effects but in this one, they decided to use a lot of CGI. There are a few moments where you can clearly see a green screen VFX. Those moments take you out of the movie and makes the movie less impressive than Fury Road. Also, the movie is predictable, but not because it’s a prequel, but because there is no character development other than Furiosa.
