An American nun embarks on a new journey when she joins a remote convent in the Italian countryside. However, her warm welcome quickly turns into a living nightmare when she discovers her new home harbours a sinister secret and unspeakable horrors.
Rising Hollywood sweetheart Sydney Sweeney stars in this movie directed by Michael Mohan who made The Voyeurs on Amazon Prime. This time he goes full horror in this story about religion. Immaculate is about a nun who joins a convent in Italy, but soon discovers that things aren’t as they seem. It looks like a typical religious horror movie, but it is somehow different. Yes, there are some horror clichés, but the overall story made most of it work. Having the location in Italy with Italian dialogues brought some creepiness to the plot. Sydney Sweeney gave a decent performance overall. This movie will keep you guessing until its gruesome ending, which will please the horror fanatic. You can tell this film had a small budget, but director Michael Mohan did a pretty good job in general. I recommend.
The performances from the rest of the cast are pretty weak. Characters needed a lot more development. The production could’ve been better, but it’s understandable with the budget they had. The ending can be shocking for some people but didn’t go too far in my opinion. The story also needed more development on how everything happened before the arrival of our main protagonist. Nothing is really explain nor where those freaky nuns come from. Immaculate is good, but demand a better execution.
