Synopsis

A live broadcast of a late-night talk show in 1977 goes horribly wrong, unleashing evil into the nation's living rooms.

The Good

Late night with the devil is a new movie starring David Dastmalchian. Directed by the Cairnes brothers, this is a gem of a movie. It’s about a struggling late night talk show that decides to increase ratings with unconventional methods. As you know, I’m a horror fanatic, and this movie was a delight for me. First, let’s just say that this is by far David Dastmalchian’s best performance. He is excellent as this broken TV show host. Then, the production is also very good. The 70s vibe is well orchestrated. Visual effects were good enough, and I was happy to see they used practical effect for most of the scenes. The story is very intriguing as you are riveted at the screen to see what’s going to happen next. They really did a great job with everything happening in one location. The dialogue is very development and smart. I didn’t know much about the Cairnes brothers, but I can say they have a bright future in Hollywood. Late night with the devil is a great entertainment. I recommend.

  • Creative story.
  • Good production.
  • Great performance by David Dastmalchian.
  • Good dialogues.
  • Very intriguing.

The Bad

For a horror movie, it is missing some of it. You get an intense horror scene only by the third act. Therefor, it makes the whole movie like a drama/suspense. They spend too much time on other characters we don’t really care. By the end, I wanted more, way more demonic scenes. It would’ve made the movie way better, in my opinion. Also, the film as a great 70s vibe but a little too clean. What I mean is the setting doesn’t feel like authentic 70s but more of an imitation of it. Nevertheless, it still looks good, but not quite there. Let’s just say the V.H.S. series did a better job doing the old camcorder footage trick. Late night with the devil is not very scary and sometimes is borderline funny, which I don’t think it’s intentional.

  • Need more horror.
  • Artificial 70s vibe.
  • Not scary.
