In pursuit of a notorious serial killer, a rookie FBI agent with a mysterious past must solve a series of occult clues to end his terrifying killing spree.
Longlegs is the new movie from Director Oz Perkins. It is about a series of mysterious murders investigated by 2 FBI agents. I had big expectation from this movie. The marketing was very well done and brought up my hype for this film. Maika Monroe is back in horror after her iconic role in the cult classic It Follows. She clearly gives the best performance in the movie. Blair Underwood is also cast as the FBI Lieutenant. I was glad to see him back in a mainstream project. Nicolas Cage is playing the character Longlegs and all I can say is that Nicolas Cage is doing Nicolas Cage stuff. As of production, this movie is amazing. The cinematography, screenplay, sound are all excellent. It reminds me of David Fincher’s work with a little bit of True Detective season 1. The movie is so clean and beautifully edited. We can see that Oz Perkins is a fan of centering shots. Everything is well put in the middle of every scene. It makes the audience see clearly what’s behind the character and creates an anxious feeling. The colour palette is on point with the 90s vibe. The story is intriguing and gives some chills. It’s a slow pace murder mystery but doesn’t lose your interest. Longlegs is a gripping thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It has good performances, great production and enough to keep you intrigued. I recommend.
The marketing of this movie didn’t help at all. They labelled it as the scariest movie of the year and even compared it to Silence Of The Lambs. Both comparison are a lie. It is not a scary movie but more of a thriller and surely not even close to the masterpiece Silence Of The Lambs. Those comparisons hurt the expectations we had for this film. But, the aspect that really hurt the movie was his third act. The third act didn’t deliver enough suspense to make the climax of the movie shocking. I was kind of meh. The lack of explanation on why this Longlegs character even exist doesn’t make him that menacing. He was more of a goofy character that we don’t know anything about. They briefly talk about his past but doesn’t say much about why all the creepy stuff is happening or neither why his face his like that. Also, some crucial events in the story are not mentioned at all by characters, and that is just frustrating. Longlegs is a good movie but didn’t focus enough on his antagonist motivations which led to a disappointing ending.
