Robert McCall finds himself at home in Southern Italy but he discovers his friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends' protector by taking on the mafia.
Denzel is back and better than ever in this third entry of the Equalizer franchise. This time, the action takes place in Italy. We are already familiar with Denzel’s character, so there’s nothing much new to say here. However, there is a brand new side character played by Dakota Fanning that helps Denzel fight evildoers. It’s quite obvious this is a wink to the movie Man On Fire (2004) which they both starred in. Equalizer 3 is a very good entertainment. Denzel gives a most respectful performances as the lead character. Dakota Fanning doesn’t have much to do, but still brings decent acting. The cinematography is unexpectedly good. Antoine Fuqua did a great job showing the landscapes of the beautiful Italy. The story is very simple, bad guys and Denzel gets rid of them. It is cliché, but the action is very fun to watch. Equalizer 3 is equal to the previous flicks. Go see it, you won’t be disappointed.
There’s plenty of action but mostly all at the end. Pacing could have been better. The story is not very creative and Dakota Fanning’s character doesn’t bring anything to it. She’s basically just passing by. Furthermore, Denzel Washington character defeats enemies way too easily and he seems practically invincible. This intrigue is a walk in a park comparing to the other movies in the franchise. Also, Denzel seems very tired. I know he’s 68, but now it shows on screen. Maybe it’s time to pass the torch to someone else if they want to continue this franchise.
