When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.
The First Omen is a prequel to the 1976 cult classic movie The Omen. We are following the life of a young American nun played by Nell Tiger Free throughout her journey in this convent in Rome. The eerie setup in this country is very effective and immediately feels that something is not right about this place. The acting by Nell Tiger Free is very good. She sells that innocent nun look to a perfection. The rest of the cast does a decent job as for performances. The slow tension build is well-made, as you are intrigue in this hellish story. Some scares are effective, and some gory scenes were a pleasant surprise. Production is very well done, as for music and sound. The First Omen won’t outclass the original Omen, but it is surely a fresh take on this franchise. Watch it.
The First Omen might be good overall but doesn’t escape typical horror church clichés. Some events are just too similar to The Omen. They needed to be more creative and not borrow elements from the first film. The story can also be predictable because it is a prequel after all. There is also an unnecessary new character added at the end which retcon the original movie in my opinion.
