Four African-American Vietnam veterans return to Vietnam. They are in search of the remains of their fallen squad leader and the promise of buried treasure. These heroes battle forces of humanity and nature while confronted by the lasting ravages of the immorality of the Vietnam War.
Spike Lee is an incredible director. He did a lot of classics like Malcolm X, Do the right thing and recently BlacKkKlansman. Da 5 Bloods is no different from that. He delivers a powerful story about politics, friendship, fatherhood and greed. All the performances are excellent but Delroy Lindo is by far the best in the bunch. He gives an oscar worthy performance. There’s a scene where he talks to the camera that is delivered masterfully by him. The cinematography is just excellent. Every scene is well lighted and filmed. Music is on point with the different eras and the change of aspect ratio to distinguish past and present is well thought. Da 5 Bloods is a must-see.
Some scenes and imagery about real life events may be too graphic for some people. The movie is very violent and some scenes seem to be right out of a Tarantino movie. Chadwick Boseman doesn’t have a lot of screen time. Also, second act is a little too long and slowed down the pacing.
