Synopsis

With the help of his loyal protector Butler, 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, descendant of a long line of criminal masterminds, seeks to find his mysteriously disappeared father, and in doing so, uncovers an ancient, underground civilization—the amazingly advanced world of fairies. Deducing that his father’s disappearance is somehow connected to the secretive, reclusive fairy world, cunning Artemis concocts a dangerous plan—so dangerous that he ultimately finds himself in a perilous war of wits with the all-powerful fairies.

The Good

This mess of a movie has some good points. One of them is Colin Farrell. He’s by far the best actor in this. Lara McDonnell also gives a decent performance. The cinematography and costume design are good. The pacing is the best quality in the film because there is plenty of action. Artemis Fowl can be entertaining for teenagers.

  • Good pacing.
  • Decent performance from Colin Farrell.
  • Good costume design.

The Bad

Artemis Fowl is a train wreck. The story is so childish and uninspiring. Yes, i understand this movie is for kids especially but still the story is not interesting enough. You are quickly thrown in this world of fairies, goblins, etc… It’s like a mix of Harry Potter, Men In Black and Spy Kids but done badly. Josh Gad plays a giant dwarf which make no sense. He’s supposed to be the comic relief but it didn’t work at all. You want to know more on how Artemis Fowl or his father played by Colin Farrell but the whole movie is mainly focused on those fairies instead. Also, they love saying Artemis Fowl in this film. The main actor portraying the title character gives an amateurish performance and has a clear lack of experience. All his line deliveries are stoic and deprived of facial emotion. In the end, we now understand why Disney decided to put this film on streaming. It’s not the worst movie i’ve seen but certainly one of the most forgettable. Avoid.

  • Boring characters and story.
  • Clear lack of experience from lead actor.
  • Uninteresting.
