Yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the now middle aged best friends Bill and Ted set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it. Along the way, they will be helped by their daughters, a new batch of historical figures, and a few music legends — to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe.
Bill & Ted are back after a long-awaited return…well not quite. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter reprise their roles from the hit movies in the late 80s. I have to admit that I loved those previous instalments and this one is close to similar. We all agree that a Bill & Ted movie will not win an Academy Award but all I can say is that it has a lot of heart. This feature is a big love letter to music. Their chemistry and charisma gets you intrigue during the whole runtime. They are also very well-supported by theirs daughters Billie and Thea played by Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine. Brigette Lundy-Pane gives a convincing performance by giving great nuances of a younger Keanu Reeves. The production is pretty decent and the pacing is very good. In the end, Bill & Ted Face the music won’t go down in history but will leave you with a smile.
I would say that this movie is aimed at audiences who saw the previous ones. Nothing is really explained about their adventures except for a quick recap at the beginning of the movie. This movie can feel really stupid for someone who doesn’t understand the dynamic of the duo. The film as a 80s style and it’s going for the nostalgia effect. Besides, after all these years, Bill & Ted are still very immature. I didn’t like the fact that they are still acting as teenagers. It’s like they never grew up. It would have been better to see some sort of evolution of the characters. Also, Samara Weaving struggles to play dumb. You can clearly see she’s not comfortable in the role. She gets totally overshadowed by her co-star Brigette Lundy-Paine. Overall, Bill & Ted Face The Music is fun but nothing more.
