After Earth is ravaged by a great religious war, an atheistic android architect sends two of his creations, Mother and Father, to start a peaceful, godless colony on the planet Kepler-22b. Their treacherous task is jeopardized by the arrival of the Mithraic, a deeply devout religious order of surviving humans.
This new sci-fi show from HBO is just phenomenal. We can immediately feel the influence from Ridley Scott’s mind. In fact, it’s created in part by Ridley Scott production company Scott Free. Almost everything in this show is great. From the world building to the acting. Not to mention, the great special effects. Amanda Collin’s performance as Mother is just incredible and should get an Emmy nomination for sure. Her collegue, Abubakar Salim is also great as Father. Both of their performances brings so much life to this series even though, ironically, they are playing androids. All the child actors are also very good, which is very difficult to accomplish. The casting team did an awesome job. The writing is deep and thoughtful. You are intrigued by this world divided by religions, and we only saw a glimpse of it. Dialogues are meaningful and makes you think about what’s important in life. The sci-fi elements are very similar Ridley Scott’s previous work like Alien, Prometheus and Blade Runner. Raised by Wolves is a must for sci-fi lovers and definitely a new hit show for HBO.
The majority of episodes are located in the same area. It can make episodes visually redundant. Also, not enough information about the origin of the war but I think this part will be revealed in future seasons.
