Synopsis

After losing his wife and memory in a car accident, a single father undergoes an experimental treatment that makes him question who he really is.

The Good

Black Box is one of the many movies Blumhouse produced for Amazon Prime. They are 4 feature films that came out this Halloween. This movie is one or maybe the best movie out of the bunch. It contains an intriguing story about this man undergoing an experimental therapy to regain his memory. Phylicia Rashad stars also in this Suspense/horror flick and does a decent job as the therapist. What’s good about this featured is that it will keep you guessing until the end. I thought I had the story figure out but there are some surprises I didn’t expect. Some scenes are creepy and seems inspired from The Grudge. The production is average but works for this low budget film. Mamoudou Athis gives a convincing performance and overall did a great job. Black Box is an OK movie to watch if nothing else is available. Not memorable but enjoyable.

  • Intriguing story.
  • Decent performances from cast.

The Bad

Black Box doesn’t give enough scares to put a horror label on it. It’s suspenseful at best. Also, the movie is a little too long and the second act could’ve been way shorter. And finally, this movie feels more like a long episode of Black Mirror.

  • Not really horror.
  • Runtime is too long.
  • Feels like a Black Mirror episode.
