14 years after making a film about his journey across the USA, Borat risks life and limb when he returns to the United States with his young daughter, and reveals more about the culture, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the political elections.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Borat. Most of us thought this character was long gone but Sacha Baron Cohen brought him back with this surprise movie. Even with the long absence, Cohen didn’t lose his touch. This movie is very funny and gives us plenty of intentional cringy moments. I love the fact that Borat is acknowledging his fame but still plays dumb. Also, the addition of his “daughter” is great and brings diversity in the comedy. As usual, Borat is very bold and creates audacious comedy scenes. This new Borat film is a great followup to the 2006 movie. You won’t be bored at all.
Unfortunately, not all jokes lands. Some of them are just not funny or stupid. Besides, there’s not much of a story in this film. It’s more of a compilation of sketch comedies. Also, too many scenes are staged and, for this reason, it won’t be as original as the first one.
