Synopsis

When a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

The Good

This new iteration in the Ghostbusters universe was long awaited. Yes, I know, there is the 2016 Ghostbusters, but let’s just not talk about it. This whole new cast of characters takes on the responsibility of busting some ghosts. Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd and Stranger Things’s Finn Wolfhard gives are the stand-out performances in the film. The movie has a great vibe, and you will definitely feel the nostalgia of the first film. Comedy is alright and the special effects, sound design are on point. Ghostbusters : Afterlife is a fun movie to watch. It is very similar to the original, so you won’t be disappointed.

  • Entertaining.
  • Good effects.
  • Good sound design.
  • Stand out performance from Mckenna Grace.

The Bad

Ghostbusters : Afterlife is too similar to the original. It definitely lacks originality. Director Jason Reitman took, in my opinion, too many references from the 1984 Ghostbusters. Everything from the ghosts, to even the wardrobe is practically identical. This movie played it safe by copying scenes. Nothing is surprising because you already saw it. I even manage to guess a dialogue in the third act because it was too obvious. Also, they didn’t reference anything from Ghostbusters 2. Finally, I thought there were some situations that didn’t make any sense. Ghostbusters : Afterlife is not a bad movie but still could have brought some originality to the franchise. Instead, we got a copy/paste with new characters.

  • Lack of originality.
  • Too many references to Ghostbusters 1984.
  • No reference to Ghostbusters 2.
  • Some illogical mistakes.
