Synopsis

An archivist takes a job restoring damaged videotapes and gets pulled into the vortex of a mystery involving the missing director and a demonic cult.

The Good

Archive 81 is a brand-new horror series from Netflix. Master of Horror, James Wan, is an executive producer for this project. Archive 81 brings a lot of mysteries and creepiness for us to enjoy. The story is well told and keeps you clueless on what’s going until a few episodes in. Yes, it is a slow-burn series, but the plot will keep you intrigued until the very end. The production is well done and original. Every episode has an intro segment that is related to the episode you’re about to watch. You get plenty of tension, head scratching and creepy images. The distribution is decent and gives good performances. Archive 81 was a good surprise. It has a good plot, tension and mystery. I recommend.

  • Good production.
  • Good mystery.
  • Great tension.

The Bad

Archive 81 may be too slow for some. The slow pacing is consistent until the end, and it can be boring for some people. Also, character motivations are just not believable. Nobody would react that way facing unexplainable events. I just don’t understand when character’s survival instinct is taken over by curiosity. The horror aspect is not really strong. There are some creepy elements but not enough in my opinion. As a fan of horror, Archive 81 is a good watch but needs more disturbing aspects for it to become a great horror series.

  • Slow burn story.
  • Unbelievable reactions.
  • Horror aspect requires improvement.
