I was excited to see Smile. The trailer was good enough to get me interested, and I can tell you now that it didn’t disappoint. The movie has an excellent intrigue and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The sound design is very effective and gives you chills at the right moment. The lead performance played by Sosie Bacon is wonderful. Her performance brings so much gravitas to the whole movie. Without her, the film wouldn’t be very much interesting. The transitions between scenes are also well-made and keeps the flow going. The story is ok and is a little similar to the movie It Follows. However, Smile’s story is able to maintain their own rules in contrary to It Follows where things fall out of sense. Smile is a great Halloween flick to see with friends, I truly recommend it.
However, Smile’s story does fall for the typical clichés. It is very predictable and too much jump scares are used. Smile lacks a little bit of creativity from the frightened aspect. It’s easy to make your audience scared by using loud sound effects, but it is also lazy in my opinion.
