These are my take on casting the MCU X-Men. I based my choices on acting ability, budget and also diversity. We all want a star-studded cast but budget wise it’s not possible. We have to pick young upcoming actors that will commit to the franchise for the next 10 years. Let’s start this.
He was in Shazam, Green Lantern and Kingsman, so Mark Strong is no stranger in comic book adaptations. Charles Xavier is a very important character, so for him we have to make an exception and pick a well experience actor. Mark Strong has a great presence on screen and also brings credibility in every role he plays. Obvious choice in my point of view.
We already saw Boyd Holbrook in Logan but the 20th Century Fox X-Men universe is a thing of the past now. He’s a pretty good actor but what I most like about him is his ability of leadership. He demonstrated that acting in The Predator and Narcos season 1. Cyclops needs to be the best X-Men and I think Boyd Holbrook would embody the stoic X-Men leader perfectly.
We know her from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and House of cards but Rachel Brosnahan would fit perfectly has Jean Grey. She can show the sweet side of this character but also be fierce when Jean Grey becomes the Phoenix. She’s already a tremendous actress, so I’m convinced she would nail the part easily.
A lot of people portrays him as Wolverine but I think Beast would be a better choice for Taron Egerton. He can display the smart wits of Hank McCoy and also the physical acting needed. With all the makeup on, I can see Egerton playing Beast absolutely.
After seeing 13 Reasons Why on Netflix, I’m certain Dylan Minnette will be a fantastic actor. No doubt he would fit as Iceman because he looks like the character in the comics. He is practically the same height and age. So, it’s logic to pick him up for the part.
Moritz Jahn is not a well known actor in North America. We only know him from the Netflix hit German series Dark. Still, he convinced me that he’s got the acting chops to portray Angel. We just need to know if he can speak english…
