Synopsis

Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet's exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence-a commodity capable of unlocking humanity's greatest potential-only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

The Good

Frank Herbert’s cult sci-fi book Dune is back on the big screen. This time, it’s Denis Villeneuve who takes on the responsibility. This story couldn’t been in better hands with Denis Villeneuve because his track record is practically impeccable. His vision in mature science fiction and outstanding cinematography is the perfect fit for this story. And, indeed, it worked! Dune is a masterfully made movie. Everything about it is well thought and meticulously crafted. Let’s start with the performances. All I can say is that everybody gave an excellent performance, nothing bad to say about anybody. Timothee Chalamet is cast perfectly as Paul Atreides. His screen presence is just remarkable. Also, Stellan Skarsgård gives a stand-out performance as The Baron. The cinematography is just amazing. You can feel the scale of every scenery. Not to mention, the jaw-dropping special effects. They are practically seamless. Hans Zimmer score blends everything well together. The music brings you into the story. Dune is very close to perfection with a great cast, great score, excellent cinematography and great pacing. I was not bored for one second, and I think Dune is a candidate for movie of the year. A must-see in Imax.

  • Excellent cast.
  • Outstanding cinematography.
  • Amazing score.
  • Spectacular special effects.
  • Entertaining.

The Bad

Dune is a dense novel, but you can feel that they simplified the story for main audiences. If I remember correctly, Frank Herbert’s story as way more weird characters. I’m nitpicking right now, but I think they could’ve gone deeper. Maybe it will get weirder in the second part. Also, they didn’t manage to show how hot the planet is. You feel like it’s not that bad. Nobody is really sweating like crazy.

  • Simplified Dune story.
  • Not showing heat of the desert planet.
