Synopsis

Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.

The Good

On the shelf for nearly 3 years, The New Mutants finally comes out and brings a fresh look into the X-Men universe. It is very different from the previous X-Men movies we saw. It’s a mix of horror and psychological thriller which makes it original. The chemistry between the cast is what makes this movie entertaining. You can feel they had fun making this feature. The special effect are well-made especially when doing Anya Taylor-Joy’s character mutant power, it’s quite unique. In the end, The New Mutants is a nice little superhero film with some horror elements.

  • Entertaining.
  • Cast as good chemistry.
  • Good special effects.

The Bad

Unfortunately, The New Mutants is an empty shell of a movie. It’s a movie without a soul or purpose. Nothing really important is going on, so you’re never invested in the story. Also, the story is very predictable and uninspiring. Having a well known X-Men character in the movie would’ve helped a lot. They hint at other X-Men mutants but nothing else. The movie as a total of 7 characters and that’s it. I guess the director wanted to create a Breakfast club type of movie with mutants. It doesn’t work because the charisma is absent even though the chemistry is there. It definitely feels more like a side quest from a video game. All the events have zero impact on other films in the same universe. Basically, New Mutants is a “meh” movie but is still better than Dark Phoenix. It won’t change a thing if you miss it.

  • Uninspiring.
  • Predictable.
  • Forgettable.
