Synopsis

After an earthquake destroys their underwater station, six researchers must navigate two miles along the dangerous, unknown depths of the ocean floor to make it to safety in a race against time.

The Good

I was a big fan of underwater flicks like The Abyss, Deep Star Six and Leviathan. It’s similar to space movies because you have this feeling of the unknown. Underwater brings this feeling efficiently. You are immediately brought in the action right in the beginning of the movie. The story is slowly unwrapping and you get to know the characters. Good start.

  • Good first act.
  • Good special effects.

The Bad

Although a good first act, the movie doesn’t keep up the pace at all. I didn’t believe at all that Kristen Stewart was this mechanical engineer. She gave a decent performance but nothing memorable. The story takes too much time explaining what the hell is going on. By the time things are getting interesting, you already gave up and looking at Instagram on your phone. Also, any logical explanations is given to what is happening. In the end, Underwater is a typical background movie that you put on while doing your laundry. Nothing special here.

  • Boring.
  • No explanations.
  • Uninteresting characters.
